Phasmophobia: Mastering the Voodoo Doll

Author : Amelia Mar 13,2025

In the thrilling world of *Phasmophobia*, hunting down the most elusive and dangerous ghosts often requires using powerful, yet risky, items like Cursed Possessions. The Voodoo Doll is a prime example, offering a compelling blend of risk and reward. This guide will explain how to acquire and effectively utilize this intriguing item.

The Voodoo Doll, despite its inherent dangers, presents a favorable risk-reward ratio in *Phasmophobia*. While game updates have tweaked its mechanics, it remains a valuable asset. Its primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence. This is achieved by sequentially inserting pins into the doll. This proves particularly useful when dealing with reticent or elusive spirits, forcing them to manifest evidence such as EMF5 readings or UV fingerprints.

Ten pins can be inserted, each provoking the ghost. However, proceed with caution. Each pin insertion reduces your sanity by 5%, meaning a full insertion drains 50% of your sanity, significantly increasing your vulnerability to ghost hunts.

The most critical risk lies in the heart pin. Pin insertion is random, and selecting the heart pin instantly triggers a Cursed Hunt, dropping your sanity by 10% and initiating a prolonged ghost hunt (20 seconds longer than usual). The ghost will spawn near you, intensifying the danger.

Despite the risks, the potential for gathering crucial evidence makes the Voodoo Doll a worthwhile tool—especially for well-prepared teams.

What Are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions, often called "Cursed Objects," are unique items randomly spawning across *Phasmophobia* maps. Their appearance can be influenced by difficulty settings and Challenge Mode. Unlike standard equipment designed for safe ghost identification, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate the ghost, but at a considerable risk to your character's sanity.

The risk associated with each Cursed Object varies, leaving the decision of whether to use them entirely up to you and your team. There's no penalty for choosing not to use them. Only one Cursed Possession appears per contract (unless modified in Custom settings).

Seven Cursed Objects exist in the game:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle

This concludes our guide on using the Voodoo Doll in *Phasmophobia*. For more *Phasmophobia* guides, news, and achievement walkthroughs, be sure to check out The Escapist!
