Multiplayer Development Director Departs Call of Duty Studio

Longtime Call of Duty Veteran Greg Reisdorf Departs Sledgehammer Games

After a fifteen-year tenure at Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty multiplayer creative director Greg Reisdorf has announced his departure. His contributions spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with his involvement in the development of 2011's Modern Warfare 3.

Reisdorf's journey with Sledgehammer Games, which commenced with the studio's inaugural title, Modern Warfare 3, included significant roles in shaping the multiplayer experience across various installments. His early work included contributions to the Modern Warfare 3 campaign, notably the memorable sequence featuring Soap MacTavish.

His influence extended to the innovative "boots on the ground" era of Call of Duty, specifically contributing to the gameplay mechanics of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, including features like boost jumps, tactical dodges, and unique weapon functionalities. He openly discussed his reservations regarding the "Pick 13" system, highlighting his belief that killstreaks should remain distinct from essential loadout choices.

Reisdorf also reflected on his experiences with Call of Duty: WWII, noting the initial controversy surrounding the class-restricted weapon system and expressing satisfaction with its subsequent revision. His contributions to Call of Duty: Vanguard included the design of several classic three-lane maps, reflecting his preference for fun, engaging gameplay over strict military realism.

His most recent work culminated in his role as creative director for the multiplayer component of 2023's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. This involved overseeing the development of live seasonal content, including the popular Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes. He spearheaded the creation of over twenty modes for Modern Warfare III's post-launch support.

Reisdorf's departure marks the end of a significant chapter in his career, but his statement suggests a continued commitment to the gaming industry, leaving fans eager to see his future projects.
