Dynasty Warriors: Origins introduces a new level of challenge with waves of enemies designed to be more formidable, following a directive from producer Tomohiko Sho to "Go and kill the player." Dive deeper into the changes that make this latest entry in the series stand out!
Dynasty Warriors: Origins Enemies Are Tougher To Beat

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, the action gameplay is elevated with tougher and stronger enemies, as instructed by producer Tomohiko Sho. His directive to the development team was clear: "This time, go and kill the player." This approach was shared during an interview with PlayStation.Blog, where Sho discussed the development process. The goal was to enhance the "sense of realism" on the battlefield, acknowledging that not only the player but also the enemy soldiers and generals are fighting for their lives.

While the game's difficulty has been ramped up, Sho ensured that it remains accessible and rewarding. He emphasized creating challenges that are satisfying to overcome, stating, "Even if you're not that good at action games, if you learn them in order, you can play comfortably and feel a sense of success." Balancing the traditional "musou" genre's exhilaration of defeating countless enemies with the realism of a war-torn battlefield was a significant challenge for the team.
Returning To Its "Origins"

Dynasty Warriors: Origins marks a departure from the series' conventional numbering, opting instead for a non-numbered title, which would have been Dynasty Warriors 10. This change highlights the game's focus on the early part of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, covering only the first half up to the Battle of Chibi, also known as the Battle of the Red Cliffs. In an interview with TheGamer at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, Sho explained, "We really wanted to be thorough and intense in telling this story; it’s one of the epic points, so we’re only focusing on up until that point."

As the first main installment in the Dynasty Warriors franchise in seven years, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is inspired by the Chinese novel, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which chronicles the tumultuous events of the Han Dynasty era in China. The game introduces an original protagonist, the Nameless Hero, who navigates the vast land of China amidst competing factions vying for supremacy.
Released on January 17th, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is now available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
