ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance
Enhancing Game Stability and Localization
Developer FLINT announced on January 20th that a language support adjustment, effective after the January 23rd maintenance, will remove English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian dubbing to improve game stability and localization quality. Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian dubbing will remain.
While English text support continues, in-game voiceovers will switch to Japanese for regions outside Korea. This change, FLINT clarifies, won't affect players' ability to chat in any of the removed languages. The developers assure players of their commitment to providing better service and experiences.
A Growing Trend: Other Gacha Games Removing English Voiceovers
ASTRA isn't alone. Several other gacha games have also reduced or eliminated English voiceovers. Examples include:
- War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: Square Enix removed English voiceovers for new content starting May 2024, prioritizing Japanese. Existing content retained its English dub.
- Aether Gazer: Yostar Games removed all English voiceovers in February 2024 due to cited financial reasons, refocusing resources on gameplay and future content.
- Snowbreak: Containment Zone: Amazing Seasun Games removed English voiceovers in December 2023, citing an evaluation of player preferences and optimization of the gaming experience.
These decisions often stem from prioritizing the language preferred by the largest player base or from resource management considerations. Maintaining English voiceovers for years can be costly, leading developers to reallocate funds towards game longevity and player-valued improvements.
