Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by popular streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has officially announced its closure, marking the end of its journey after three remarkable years. The studio, which boasted a talented team of over 55 developers, shared the news through a post on X, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." In the same announcement, they reached out to the gaming community, asking if any studios are currently hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.
Founded by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, known for their work on titles like Call of Duty and Halo, Midnight Society aimed to make a mark with its first project, Deadrop. The game was envisioned as a free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) leveraging the team's extensive expertise. Despite setting a target release for 2024, the project did not meet its deadline.

The studio parted ways with Beahm in 2024 following revelations that the streamer had engaged in inappropriate conversations with a minor via Twitch's Whispers feature. Despite this split, Midnight Society continued to work on Deadrop until its eventual shutdown this year.
Deadrop was set in a unique fictional universe where "the 80s never ended," according to the studio. Visuals released by Midnight Society showcased characters in Daft Punk-inspired helmets, wielding an eclectic mix of guns and swords. The gameplay was designed to be a PvPvE extraction shooter, promising a thrilling experience for players.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing closure or layoffs in what has been a challenging period for the gaming industry. Companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others have also felt the impact of these tough times.
