Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3: A PS5 Launch, and Beyond
FF7 Remake Part 3 Confirmed for PS5 Launch
PlayStation fans can breathe easy! Producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed during a January 23, 2025, interview with 4Gamer that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will debut on the PS5. This announcement directly addresses concerns raised about the release patterns of previous installments. Kitase stated unequivocally, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)."
While the PS5 is mid-lifecycle, the possibility of a PS6 release before the completion of the FF7 Remake trilogy remains uncertain.
FF7 Remake Part 3 Release Date: Still Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped regarding the release date. However, development on Part 3 commenced alongside Part 2, with full production accelerating after Part 2’s February 2024 launch. Leveraging assets from the previous games and a completed story draft suggests a potentially sooner-than-expected release.
In a January 23, 2025, Famitsu interview, Hamaguchi offered a positive update: "It’s going very well...We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it." Kitase also expressed satisfaction with the completed storyline, assuring fans of a fulfilling conclusion.
Timed Exclusivity Expected
A March 6, 2024, Washington Post report indicated PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the precedent set by previous installments (FF7 Remake: one-year PS4 exclusivity; FF7 Remake Intergrade: six-month PS5 exclusivity; FF7 Rebirth: timed PS5 exclusivity before a January 23, 2025, PC release), Part 3 is likely to follow suit with a PS5 exclusive period before launching on other platforms.
Square Enix’s Multi-Platform Shift
Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix’s March 31, 2024, financial report revealed declining HD title sales. The company attributed this to increased development and marketing costs. In response, Square Enix announced a strategic shift towards a multi-platform approach, encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests future Square Enix titles, even those with strong PlayStation ties, may see wider releases.
