Deadlock Announced Major Update In Months
Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes
Deadlock's latest major update transforms its four-lane map into a three-lane structure, streamlining the game's layout and introducing a host of other modifications. Valve shared the comprehensive details of this map rework and other mechanic adjustments on Steam on February 26, 2025.
The redesign encompasses a significant reduction from four lanes to three, accompanied by "a wide array of map-wide changes, including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, and the mid boss." Deadlock's unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre already sets it apart, and this shift back to a traditional three-lane format is expected to simplify gameplay and enhance strategic depth.
Moreover, the update introduces changes to farming mechanics, eliminating the need for players to last-hit enemy troopers to summon Soul Orbs, thereby making early laning phases more accessible. The patch notes also highlight improvements in the game's netcode and client performance, promising a smoother gaming experience.
Vital Update for Deadlock
This update could be the catalyst needed to revitalize Deadlock's player community. Following a peak of 171,490 active players in September 2024, the game experienced a 90% drop in player count, with only around 17,000 players engaging this past month.
Valve Developer Yoshi shared insights on Deadlock's Discord server in January 2025, explaining that the development team would shift from a bi-weekly update cycle to a more flexible schedule. Yoshi stated, "Moving forward, major patches will no longer adhere to a fixed schedule. These updates will be more substantial, though less frequent, and we will continue to release hotfixes as necessary. We are excited to further develop the game in the coming year."
Currently, Deadlock is in active development and playtesting phases, accessible only through friend invites. No official release date has been announced yet. For more information on Deadlock and its updates, visit our dedicated Deadlock page.
