Today, January 30, marks the exciting release of Sony’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC, a game that has been eagerly anticipated by fans and PC gamers alike. Although the porting process has been underway for some time, the specifics regarding its performance on various PC setups have only just come to light.
On the PlayStation Blog, developer Nixxes Software unveiled an array of impressive PC features tailored to enhance the gaming experience across a wide spectrum of hardware. The port is engineered to optimize both performance and visual fidelity, catering to a diverse range of configurations.
Accompanied by a new trailer, Spider-Man 2 on PC notably removes the hard PSN requirement for PC players and introduces advanced raytracing capabilities, including DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction. Menno Bil, a graphics programmer at Nixxes, shared insights on the blog: "In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC with ray reconstruction enabled, we see more detailed ray-traced reflections and better-defined ray-traced shadows, especially when viewing raytracing effects at steep angles. We also see improvements in the ray-traced interiors and less ghosting and noise in the ray-traced ambient occlusion."
The game supports DLSS 3 and FSR 3.1 for upscaling and frame generation, with Intel’s XeSS upscaler also on offer. While DLSS 4’s Multi Frame Generation isn’t supported by default, savvy users can utilize the Nvidia app to enhance DLSS 3’s Frame Generation image quality.
For gamers with wider screens, the port supports ultrawide resolutions up to a remarkable 48:9 aspect ratio, and all cinematics are viewable up to 32:9.
For those with more powerful rigs, the game can be pushed to 4K at 60 FPS with "Ray Tracing Ultimate" settings, demanding an RTX 4090, an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D, and 32 GB of RAM.
Regarding compatibility with the Steam Deck, the high RAM requirements and need for a modern graphics card suggest it might be feasible, but don’t expect Steam Deck verification. Previous titles like Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales benefited from PS4 ports, making them more scalable. However, the PS5-exclusive Spider-Man 2 may push the hardware limits further.
The comprehensive range of system configurations has been well-received online. A user on Reddit commented: “This must be the best hardware requirements sheet I’ve seen so far." Another user, ItsMeIcebear4, added, "Honestly, great job. If performance lives up to this, it'll be very well received."
