Palworld's Potential Shift to Live Service: CEO Shares Perspective
Business Potential Meets Development Challenges

During conversations with ASCII Japan, Mizobe revealed that Pocketpair hasn't finalized plans for Palworld's long-term development. When questioned about transitioning to live service, he emphasized that current discussions remain preliminary.
"We're committed to delivering fresh content," Mizobe stated, outlining plans for new maps, additional Pals, and raid bosses. "However, Palworld's future presents two distinct pathways," he continued.
"We could finalize Palworld as a complete buy-to-play (B2P) experience or transition to a live-service model," Mizobe explained. B2P titles require a single purchase for full access, while live service games maintain engagement through ongoing monetized content releases.

"Financially, live service would offer continuous revenue streams and potentially extend Palworld's lifespan," Mizobe acknowledged. "However, since we didn't design Palworld as a service initially, implementation would present significant technical hurdles."
The CEO highlighted another critical consideration: player reception. "Ultimately, our decision must align with what our community wants," Mizobe stressed. "Successful transitions to free-to-play models, like PUBG and Fall Guys, typically required years of groundwork - Palworld's B2P foundation adds complexity."

Currently, Pocketpair is evaluating sustainable growth strategies without compromising player satisfaction. "While ad monetization has been suggested," Mizobe noted, "PC gaming audiences generally reject intrusive advertisements. Steam players particularly voice strong opposition to ad implementations."
"We're proceeding thoughtfully as we determine Palworld's optimal path forward," Mizobe concluded. The game remains in early access, recently expanding with its Sakurajima update and introducing highly-requested PvP arena combat.
