Capcom's latest release has been making waves, securing the 6th spot among Steam's most-played games. However, the game's success is overshadowed by widespread criticism of its technical performance. Digital Foundry's in-depth analysis of the PC version has validated these concerns, highlighting a range of disappointing issues.
One of the major problems is the lengthy shader pre-compilation process. On a system equipped with a 9800X3D processor, it takes approximately 9 minutes, while on a Ryzen 3600, it can take over 30 minutes. Furthermore, texture quality remains substandard even when set to "High." On a PC with an RTX 4060 running at 1440p with balanced DLSS settings, significant frame time spikes are evident. Even with a more powerful RTX 4070 featuring 12 GB of memory, the textures appear notably poor.
For users with GPUs possessing 8 GB of memory, Digital Foundry advises reducing texture quality to "Medium" to reduce stuttering and frame time spikes. However, this compromise still results in unsatisfactory visual quality. Rapid camera movements continue to cause noticeable spikes, though these are less severe with slower movements. Even with lower texture settings, the persistent frame time issues remain a challenge.
Alex Battaglia from Digital Foundry points to data streaming as the core issue, which puts excessive strain on the GPU during decompression. This is especially problematic for budget graphics cards, resulting in sharp frame time spikes. He advises against purchasing the game for those with 8 GB GPUs and expresses reservations about using even higher-end solutions like the RTX 4070.
Performance is particularly dismal on Intel GPUs. For instance, the Arc 770 struggles to deliver 15–20 frames per second, accompanied by missing textures and other visual artifacts. While high-performance systems can somewhat mitigate these issues, the game still fails to run smoothly across the board. At present, finding optimized settings is nearly impossible without sacrificing significant visual quality.
