2XKO Alpha Playtest: Addressing Player Feedback and Refining Gameplay
The 2XKO Alpha Lab Playtest, only four days old, has already generated a significant amount of player feedback. This article details how 2XKO plans to address these concerns.
Gameplay Refinements Based on Player Feedback
2XKO's director, Shaun Rivera, announced via Twitter (X) that the upcoming fighting game will undergo adjustments based on playtest feedback. The game's League of Legends connection attracted a large player base, leading to numerous online discussions and clips showcasing devastating combos deemed unfair by many.
Rivera acknowledged the "really creative" combos discovered by players, but noted that excessively long, one-sided combos are undesirable. A key change will involve reducing the frequency of "Touch of Death" (TOD) combos, which can instantly KO opponents from full health. While maintaining the game's fast-paced nature is a priority, balance and engaging gameplay are equally important. Rivera stated that while some TODs were expected, the development team is analyzing data to ensure they remain exceptional outcomes requiring significant skill.
Tutorial Mode Improvements
The Tutorial Mode has also received criticism. While the game is considered easy to learn, mastering its complexities is a significant challenge, exacerbated by the lack of skill-based matchmaking in the playtest. Professional player Christopher "NYChrisG" described 2XKO as potentially not for everyone, citing its complex six-button system and intricate gameplay comparable to titles like Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
Rivera confirmed that improvements to the Tutorial Mode are planned, acknowledging it as a "rough pass" in its current state. A Reddit post by a tutorial team member actively solicited player feedback, with suggestions including adopting a structure similar to Guilty Gear Strive or Street Fighter 6, and incorporating advanced tutorials on concepts like frame data.
Enthusiastic Player Response
Despite the criticisms, 2XKO has seen significant positive player response. Professional player William "Leffen" Hjelte streamed 19 hours of gameplay, and the game attracted thousands of Twitch viewers, peaking at 60,425 on its first day.
While still in closed alpha with no release date, 2XKO shows strong potential, fueled by its impressive viewership and active community feedback. Interested in participating? See the linked article for registration details.
