Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), launched Battlefield Labs on February 3, 2025 – a revolutionary platform designed to foster unprecedented collaboration between players and developers. This initiative allows players to directly influence the development of future Battlefield installments by testing pre-release game concepts, mechanics, and features.
The studio emphasizes the critical development phase the upcoming Battlefield game is entering, highlighting the invaluable contribution community feedback will provide. A select group of players from European and North American servers will be invited to participate in the initial phase of Battlefield Labs. While a precise release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via [link omitted – replace with actual link if available].
"This game holds immense potential," stated Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization. "Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to unlock that potential through pre-alpha testing and direct community engagement."
While participation is limited to a selected group, Battlefield Studios assures that regular updates will be shared with the broader community, ensuring everyone can follow the progress. Furthermore, the studio plans to extend this collaborative approach to future Battlefield titles.
Battlefield Studios comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect (developing a new experience), Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion (renowned for racing games and their contributions to Battlefield).
Testing Focus in Battlefield Labs:
The selected players will test specific aspects of the unfinished game, allowing for timely feedback integration. The initial focus will be on core gameplay pillars: combat, destruction, weapon/vehicle/gadget balance, and ultimately, how these elements interact within maps, modes, and squad dynamics. Two established modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will also be included, providing opportunities to refine existing gameplay.
Conquest involves large-scale battles centered around capturing control points (flags), with a ticket system determining victory. Breakthrough features attackers and defenders, with attackers gaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemy soldiers.
The class system is another area ripe for refinement, and Battlefield Studios actively seeks player input to achieve the optimal balance of form, function, and feel. While internal playtesting is extensive, the studio believes that player feedback will significantly accelerate development.
