Bloodborne Fans Celebrate 10th Anniversary, Rally for Return to Yharnam Amid No Sequel or Update

Author : Charlotte Apr 17,2025

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the iconic PlayStation 4 game, *Bloodborne*, and fans around the globe are celebrating by organizing the latest Return to Yharnam community event. Launched on March 24, 2015, by FromSoftware, this title not only solidified the developer's status as a titan in the gaming industry but also garnered widespread critical and commercial success. Given its impact, many expected a sequel or at least a current-gen remaster or update. Yet, surprisingly, there has been no follow-up, leaving fans puzzled and eager for more.

The silence from Sony regarding a *Bloodborne* sequel, remaster, or even a next-gen update to bring the game to 60fps has been deafening. Fans have long clamored for additional content, yet their requests have gone unanswered, making it one of the most perplexing decisions in the gaming world.

Earlier this year, some insight was offered when Shuhei Yoshida, a legendary figure at PlayStation who has since left Sony, shared his personal theory on the matter during an interview with Kinda Funny Games. Yoshida emphasized that his comments were not based on insider knowledge but rather his own speculation. He stated, “*Bloodborne* has always been the most asked thing... And people wonder why we haven’t really done anything, even an update or a remaster. Should be easy, right? The company is known for doing so many remasters, right, some people get frustrated."

Yoshida's theory hinges on the creative vision of Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware and mastermind behind *Bloodborne*. He suggested that Miyazaki's deep attachment to the game, coupled with his busy schedule managing multiple successful projects, might be why there hasn't been a follow-up. Yoshida speculated, “I think he is interested, but he’s so successful and he’s so busy, so he doesn’t want, he cannot do himself, but he does not want anyone else to touch it. So that’s my theory. And the PlayStation team respect his wish. So that’s my guess, right? Theory. I am not revealing any secret information, to be clear.”

Miyazaki's recent successes, including the critically acclaimed *Elden Ring* and its upcoming multiplayer spin-off, illustrate just how in-demand he is. Since *Bloodborne*, he has directed *Dark Souls 3*, *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and *Elden Ring*, leaving little time for revisiting past projects. While Miyazaki often sidesteps questions about *Bloodborne* by noting that FromSoftware does not own the IP, he did concede last year that the game could benefit from a release on more modern hardware.

In the absence of official updates, the community has taken matters into its own hands. Modders have attempted to enhance the *Bloodborne* experience, though these efforts have met with resistance from Sony. For instance, well-known modder Lance McDonald faced a DMCA takedown for his 60fps mod, and Lilith Walther's projects like Nightmare Kart and the *Bloodborne* PSX demake also encountered copyright issues. Meanwhile, advancements in PS4 emulation by tech experts at Digital Foundry, specifically with ShadPS4, have enabled PC players to experience *Bloodborne* at 60fps, potentially prompting a stern reaction from Sony.

With no official word from Sony on the future of *Bloodborne*, fans continue to celebrate the game through community events. Today's Return to Yharnam event encourages players to create new characters, engage with as many cooperators and invaders as possible, and leave messages signaling their participation in this community-driven celebration. As fans revel in the world of Yharnam, the future of *Bloodborne* remains uncertain, leaving these events as a testament to the game's enduring legacy and the passion of its community.
