Capcom has announced efforts to boost Monster Hunter Wilds' performance prior to its launch, as detailed on the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025. A video shared by Monster Hunter Germany displayed smoother gameplay, featuring a hunter engaged in combat with Quematrice, a rooster-like brute wyvern. This footage highlighted the enhanced Prioritize Framerate mode for the PS5, which offers improved frame rates at the expense of some graphical details.

The post also confirmed similar optimization efforts for the PC version, with a focus on reducing the required GPU specifications. "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements," the post stated.

Currently, the game's minimum GPU requirements are set at NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. If Capcom achieves its goal, players might soon enjoy Monster Hunter Wilds on lower or mid-tier GPUs, broadening the game's accessibility.

In addition, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help players determine the optimal settings for their systems or to check if their PC can run the game smoothly. This move could alleviate concerns about the need for hardware upgrades, especially if the GPU requirements are indeed lowered.

Issues in the First Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta

The initial open beta of Monster Hunter Wilds, held between October and November 2024, revealed significant performance issues that left many players dissatisfied. Feedback from Steam users highlighted the presence of low-poly NPCs and monsters, giving the game a dated appearance reminiscent of PS1 graphics.

Players also reported experiencing frame rate drops and other performance hiccups, even on high-end PCs. While some managed to enhance performance, it often came at the cost of visual quality, further degrading the game's appearance.

Despite the concerns raised by the beta test, Capcom responded promptly on November 1, 2024, assuring players that they were addressing issues like afterimage noise in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled. They emphasized that the full game would be in a significantly improved state compared to the beta.

Players can look forward to experiencing these improvements soon, as Capcom has scheduled a second Open Beta Test for Monster Hunter Wilds on February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025, featuring the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and an unknown monster on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. It remains to be seen whether the recent performance enhancements will be included in this final beta phase.
