Remedy's Control spin-off shooter, FBC: Firebreak, has surpassed one million players. Although the game is free for Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers, the studio described this as a "significant milestone," while noting "there is still a lot of work ahead."
"As of last night, FBC: Firebreak has reached over one million players. This is a major achievement, and we thank everyone who has played from the entire team at Remedy," the studio announced in a social media post.
"We recognize there is still plenty to accomplish and are incredibly motivated to continue. Exciting new features are in development for Firebreak players—stay tuned for updates soon."
Last week, the team identified issues with "the initial gameplay experience," stating that the opening segment of FBC: Firebreak was not "optimal due to several factors," including onboarding challenges, poorly explained mechanics and tools, and "a lack of clear guidance on Job objectives and effective task execution." The developer added: "the sense of empowerment is limited early on, as starting weapons feel underpowered, and unlocking higher-tier weapons involves excessive grinding."
"Despite the occasionally sparse narrative, there’s considerable enjoyment in battling unpredictable creatures within Remedy’s brilliantly surreal bureaucratic world," we noted in IGN's FBC: Firebreak review in progress. "I’ll continue playing this week and finalize this review once I’ve fully explored the possibilities of Remedy’s chaotic co-op job simulator."
Remedy also outlined its post-launch support strategy, which includes two new Jobs (missions) arriving in 2025. Additional updates are scheduled for 2026, the developer confirmed. All post-launch playable content, including Jobs, will be free for all players. Cosmetic items will be available for purchase, but these won’t impact gameplay, and there will be no time-limited rotations or daily login requirements, Remedy emphasized.
It’s a productive period for Alan Wake creator Remedy, which has multiple projects underway. Alongside FBC: Firebreak, the studio is developing Control 2 and the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes.
